Top 7 Low Carb Diet Mistakes - Don't Be Another Low Carb Victim!
Everyone gets to a point during their low carb diet where they simply feel like throwing in the towel. Why let that be you? Instead, take notes and learn from others that have laid the path to a successful low carb diet before you, with these top 7 low carb diet mistakes...
1) False starts!
Low carb diets are not complicated, but they may take a while to familiarize yourself with. That's why you'll see at the bottom of this article a link to my resource: Low carb for beginners. More on that later...
However, if you think it means you can just eat meat all day (or other low carb myths) or if you don't know where the carbs are hidden in certain foods, you're setting yourself up for a miserable failure in your low carb diet. Do your research (or see the link at the bottom of this article) for a shortcut!
2) "I can't do it, it's not right for me" mentality
There are many ways to launch your own successful low carb diet. So giving up on it after a few days is insanity.
We all wants results fast, but the realiy is that weight loss of any nature takes time. In fact, it could be a month before you even notice a consistent shift in your weight loss.
That's why so many people never lose weight - they think "It's not working, so it's not worth it". The sad reality is, they were literally weeks from losing a waist size, but just slammed the door on their future slimming ability. But surely, they have another go in the future right?
Well, yes and no. The problem is that when this happens, subconciously you are always going to have that doubt and negative expectation that you'll never lose weight. So no matter what you try, you'll never put your heart into it and always cut the plan short.
A prime example of this is eating too little carbohydrate at first, suffering carb crash, and deciding low carb isn't for you. This is a shame, when a simple adjustment can usually get you through the first week comfortably, to the great rewards at the end of it.
3) Not Enough Vegetables
Time and time again, people tell me they don't feel good eating low carb, and it turns out they are eating almost no vegetables or fruit. This will fail you in the long term.
You should be eating more vegetables than any other food! Fruit, too, especially fruit low in sugar, has its place in a complete (and healthy) low carb diet.
4) Lack of fiber
Eating enough vegetables and fruit go a long way towards making sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet. There are other low carb sources of fiber as well, and it's important to know about them.
5) Eating Too Much
Calorie counting is banished from low carb diets, but yhat doesn't mean you can throw caution to the wind when it comes to calorie consumption!
The great thing about low carb eating is that our appetites are more suppressed, allowing us to eat fewer calories without getting hungry.
Many people take this as a free ticket to eat MORE because they are cutting the carbs. This is crazy, you should eat when you are hungry, and only eat enough to quench your hunger. Don't just eat more volume for the sake of it! Calories are calories. The more you shovel down, the fatter you'll become, regardless of what diet plan you're on!
6) Fail to plan, plan to fail (cliche!)
The most succesfull attribute to a succesful low carb diet is planning. This simply means adjusting your lifestyle to accomodate your diet.
Think this is not important? Well, look at it this way. How often do you have a scheduled snack, a stop at the local drive thru (perhaps the kid's treat on the weekend), accept invitations to dinner where carbs are going to be filling you from head to toe...and all the other things you currently do to put yourself in front of carbs.
Think about your shopping list, as most people never change their shopping lists. Where do you shop? Do they have the adequete low carb options?
Ultimately, make sure that you're not putting yourself further from the right low carb foods and closer to the high carbs like before.
I know it sounds easy, but there are probably many habits you have formed over the years which you might need to take notice of and start to readjust. Definately something you should think conciously about before and during the early days of your low carb diet.
7) Getting stuck in the dieting rut
Let's be honest, we all like a wide selection of food when it comes to our diets. Nobody likes the same ol crap day after day.
Even on a low carb diet, there is no excuse for eating a wide variety of foods. As long as you know what has starch and sugar, you can joyfully skip those options along the way.
Alot of food can have the carbs removed (sort of) by substituting certain elements of a dish.
Don't just go for what you're told to eat. Variety is the spice of life (and the key to sticking to an enjoyable diet)
There are other things you should be wary of, but for the purposes of this article, that should be enough to give you a clear head start over everyone else.
If you've been on my 7 day course over at http://lowcarbdietformula.com you'll know what I am talking about when I say that it's surprising how many hidden pitfalls there are associated with a low carb diet.
That doesn't mean you'll necessarily fall into them like everyone else, but believe me, when you're 2 months into your low carb diet, the last thing you want to do is let just ONE of these "traps" hinder your previous hard work.
